Leo Morey

Leo Morey is a Cuban-born painter based in York whose work explores symbolism, hierarchy, and the timeless language of figurative painting.

He centres his practice on the precision of technique, embracing a slow, deliberate process that prioritises craftsmanship, clarity, and the creation of images intended to carry lasting symbolic weight. He lives and works in the UK, where he continues to develop new series and exhibit his paintings.

WHY THEY’RE IN THE HAUS

I love interiors that bring together things that, on paper, probably shouldn’t work and Leo’s paintings bring something completely different to the Haus.

His work has this beautiful, almost old-world quality to it: figurative painting, folklore, symbolism and gold leaf, created with real patience and craftsmanship.

Set amongst wonky ceramics, colourful textiles, vintage finds and all the other joyful chaos of Juicehaus, they add a little drama, mystery and magic.

Because a home doesn’t have to choose between serious art and silly things. In fact, I think it’s much better with both.
